HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — The death toll from a measles outbreak in Zimbabwe
has risen to almost 700 children, the country’s health ministry has said.
Some are calling for the enactment of legislation to make vaccination mandatory
in a country where anti-modern medicine religious sects
hold sway on large swathes of the population of 15 million people.

The southern African country’s health ministry announced at the weekend
that 698 children have died from measles since the outbreak started in April.

The ministry said 37 of the deaths occurred on a single day on Sept.1.
The health ministry said it had recorded 6,291 cases by Sept. 4.

The latest figures are more than four-times the number of deaths announced about two weeks ago
when the ministry said 157 children, most of whom were unvaccinated
due to their family’s religious beliefs, had succumbed to the disease.

Dr. Johannes Marisa, the president of the Medical and Dental Private Practitioners of Zimbabwe Association
told The Associated Press on Monday that
the government should escalate an ongoing mass vaccination campaign
and embark on awareness programs targeted especially at anti-vaccine religious groups.

“Because of the resistance, education may not be enough
so the government should also consider using coercive measures
to ensure that no one is allowed to refuse vaccination for their children,” said Marisa.

He urged the government
to “consider enacting legislation that makes vaccination against killer diseases such as measles mandatory.”

that "Putin is using energy as a weapon by cutting supply and manipulating our energy markets",
which of course he is doing in response to the west's weaponization of currencies and capital flows.

Van Der Leyen confirmed that "the @EU_Commission is preparing proposals
to help vulnerable households and businesses to cope with high energy prices"

Will it work? Of course not,
because Russia will never agree to sell to those imposing price caps (especially since China and India will never join),
while ordinary Europeans will never agree to voluntarily sacrifice their own comfort
without the knowledge that everyone else is also sharing in the burden.
Which is why the announcement by French president Macron,
calling for 10% reduction in country's energy use
to avoid rationing and cuts this winter,
will achieve nothing at all

Well it is 5.50am here in Brisbane Australia,its the predawn light but there is already the sound of solid traffic from the freeway as the worker bees commute to their cubicles for their daily meaningless pursuits' ,the struggle to put food on the table,pay the bills etc.

All totally unaware of much beyond their own little world and what they do know is mostly just the local and American political kabuki,sport -what the media feeds them.

But all is not well with the world first of all floods 1/3 of Pakistan is underwater 33 million are displaced you get a 30 second news sound bite but Im not seeing any pleas from charities etc,not being reported here though are floods that have occurred in Bulgaria,Senegal,Uganda,Mexico,India and the Congo that have all occurred in the last few weeks.

But floods aren't the major problem drought is,2.3 billion people in the world are currently facing water stress droughts have occurred world wide, the drying up of rivers has been reported but the extent of the drought in Europe,the USA and China hasn't. For example 40 percent of the USA is currently in drought.Drought is causing major energy and food security concerns.

There are heated water disputes in many areas which may actually turn into wars,the Nile basin,Turkey,Syria,Iraq,Afghanistan and Iran,the Mekong basin all examples.

Where there is drought there is fire,the fires in California are being reported but currently there are even bigger fires in Alaska and New Mexico.

Recently an area 1/5 the size of Belgium burnt in UK and Europe.

Perhaps its best that the morning commuters don't know the extent to which things are going pear-shaped out there and continue their daily routines which have gone on for the 60-70 years of mass internal combustion manufacture.Ignorance is bliss
