Imo, China could have continued to effectively control covid and do the zero covid thing with the older variants, and it resulted in only very short term restrictions on freedom every once in a while, which could have been sustainable. But nowadays the variants such as Omicron are probably just too contagious for zero-covid policy to be enforceable in China.

I think part of the thinking is the China govt saw a really high covid death rate in Hong Kong last month and the government think that scenes like that could be repeated across mainland China if nothing is done to stop the spread. The real problem they have is most vaccinateds in China/Hong Kong were vaccinated with the Chinese vax (Sinovac/Sinopharm) and from the Hong Kong experience last month it would appear those vax were not effective against Omicron. Unlike where other countries are more happy to just let Omicron rip because different vacs have been effective in preventing deaths. What say you, 刘汉?

(Disclaimer: Not saying vacs should be forced, or vacs are all good because it is not as simple as that, but it does seem like it might have prevented many deaths in the west when comparing with Hong Kong, either that or post-infection immunity is more effective than vax immunity against covid, where the west has much more of that compared to China.)

I don't buy the vax story. If that were true all of Africa and half of Romania would be dead right now. But they have low death rates (especially Africa)
The most vaxed countries in the world still have the most C-deaths. Fatality rates often are high in countries with shitty health care systems.

In Germany, when you get e.g. Diabetes, you go to the doc, he screens you, prescribes medication, sends you to a nutritionist who will create a diet-plan tailored to you personally. Of course this is all with no cost.

In the US for example you wont dare to do all these things because it would cost a fortune. I once new a guy who had poisoned himself with spores when trying to grow mushrooms. He went on a forum asking for advice on what to do. People told him to go to the doctor urgently but he replied that he had no insurance and he'd wait it out on his couch. Don't know what the outcome was...

There are countries where the population has a higher chance of being healthy due to their circumstances, and there are countries where they have many overweight (or even obese) people who eat lots of fast-food and can't afford good health-care. Their immune system is weak from sitting all day, not moving, living in big cities etc.

I don't say Covid is a hoax but for a healthy individual under say 75 it shouldn't be a problem at all (not even the first more "dangerous" variants). Most people who die from it have a) preconditions and b) bad treatment, i.e. no Ivermectine in the early stages (even Queen Elisabeth was treated with Ivermectine and look at her still alive and kickin')
