The word “missed” here is a bit misleading; it seems to imply error when there is no evidence of one. Would have reframed this as “Iran may have prioritized the targeting of aircraft storage areas over US forces in Iraq strikes” https://t.co/Aq1jZtqmc5

The_Real_Mr_Anderson wrote:username wrote:Soleimani assassination was a huge stupid blunder or a bold attempt to start a war.
This is not a decision that could have been taken by Trump himself out of the blue, especially since he was pushing to pull out of Syria and generally from ME. He obviously did not know who Soleimani was and the weak rhetoric after the event is only a poor attempt to minimize the PR damage. Someone must have pushed hard for it and advisers definitely misled Trump on consequences as this was a huge hit on his supporter base which is against war and for return of US troops home.
Something major must have been done since then behind scenes as Iran response was extremely weak and obviously meant to cause no real damage. Russia was suspiciously quiet as well. Quite surprising to see Russia and China less vocal than some NATO members.
I expect important changes at the top of Pentagon, CIA, DoD.
US cannot win a full conventional war against Iran by itself especially if Iran receives AA assistance from Russia and there is nobody in the region to go against them on the ground.
Trump statement today and Khamenei announcements confirm nobody has any intention to further escalate the conflict.
Some further local militia attacks are still to be expected but the response will be limited as well.
Militarily the US could wreck the Iranians but when that conflict turns into a guerilla conflict thats when the Conventional army will always lose...
The idea if any strike at all would be to cripple Irans ability to wage war take out command and control comm's etc then push the hired crows in to do the dirty business destabilizing Iran with a Syria type blueprint then the assets that are there would be used more so to secure nuclear sites & so forth, realistically that would be a very difficult thing to do more so politically given that it would require more than what's in theatre currently and would take years to accomplish a dismantlement and destruction of said sites and materials.
Its not something that highly appealing to anyone with a sense of reality and everyone would have to be on board for it to stand a chance of working.
I couldn't see the Russians providing Air defence themselves but maybe more of what they've done with Syria that being said Iran does have a better air defence system than most in the ME and Russia AFAIK would be willing to sell the Iranians S400 upon request
"Militarily the US could wreck Iran" is a type of simplification used by chickenhawks and warmongering media in order to sell disastrous war to the public. Iran has population over 80 million, 1/3 is under 25 years old. Has numerous fortified sites hiden deep inside mountains, whit thousands of ballistic missiles. Iran has 2n largest navy force iin the world and hundreds of thousand dedicated troops and paramilitary organizations. Even prior turning the conflit from regular to irregular wrfare it would be military nightmare for the US costing trillions of $. And count in any military action against Iran would trigger resistance all over the region.
As per "destabilizing Iran". Well, thanks to Soleimani, Russia and other allies, globalists haven't many jihadists to destabilize Iran now.
That's why they are forced to play more openly and they have to use regular, national armies to occupy and steal. And that's good thing because masks fell off...

According to @DaveSchmerler, Iran made a lot of direct hits at Ain Assad. Interesting details:

-Dimensions of a medium-sized hangar are about 21 x 47m. You'd need a CEP <10m and some luck.

By converting the hangar's area into a circular target (radius = 17.7m), we can calculate the single-shot probability of a direct hit:
100m CEP = 2.15%
10m CEP = 88.5%

That is absolutely correct.
Bombing Iran would only make it worse and US has absolutely zero chances to repeat Iraq scenario unless it flies in half a million soldiers, 5000+ tanks and armored vehicles and 1-2000 helicopters besides total aerial supremacy. It would be much worse that Vietnam since there are no other troops to fight on the ground and we all see the limits of technology in Syria, Afghanistan, etc.
And the question is... cui bono? Definitely not the Americans. Defeated Shia doesn't even benefit Israel as it will suddenly stand out as a single enemy to all muslims. Russia doesn't like Iran either and won't like them getting any stronger but it tolerates them given present policy and interests to keep conflicts outside Russian borders. On the long run, only Russia may benefit from a destroyed Iran as an increased opportunity to gain direct access to Indian Ocean but that is a very long stretch.

No. And they won't. Similar denial as when the spy drone was downed. They are embarrassed. Trump said "minimal damage".
It proves that Iranian and local sources are more reliable and correct than anything the corporate media and government loudmouths say.
