Thing is, though: S300 "kits" if you like, come with friend or foe designation radar as far as I know, which means the same "accident" couldn't happen as before.
All the same, it does seem dodgy, just waiting for airliners to be in the area beforehand.

There must be some way to re-shuffle civilian air corridors over Syria to prevent them becoming shields for the Israeli air force?

As I understand it the planes (or at least one of them) were in Lebanon. As well as Israeli fighter jets. They attacked from abroad, as usually.
