This is causing a lot of trouble in the USA: Keenan Anderson, 31, cousin of the co-founder of Black Lives Matter, Patrisse Cullors, was killed with a taser by the Los Angeles police after a traffic accident in which he was involved. The officers detained the high school teacher in the middle of the street, demanded him to behave calmly, but at the same time processed him with a taser, and that until he was dead. The video recordings from the bodycams of the officials are clear and now public. As in the past after similar incidents, serious racial unrest must be expected.

Djibouti signs $1B deal to set up rocket and satellite launch site

Djibouti has signed a $1 billion deal with Hong Kong Aerospace Technology Group to set up a rocket and satellite launch site in the country.

The project, that will take 5 years to complete, also includes the construction of a port and highway of international standing in the northern region of Obock for the transport of materials necessary for the development of aerospace sites.

The country holds strategic importance as it houses the US’ biggest military facility on the African continent and also Chinese, Japanese, and French military bases.

South Africa, Russia, China to conduct joint military exercise in February

South African National Defense Force has confirmed its participation in a trilateral maritime exercise with China and Russia. The three navies will undertake a series of joint naval drills. The exercise is scheduled to be held between 17 and 24 February 2023.

The eight-day long exercise will be carried out off the South African coastal province KwaZulu-Natal in the Indian Ocean. The activities will majorly comprise gunnery training, force protection drills as well as other air defense exercises.

US, Russia clash at UN meeting over ‘violent extremism’ in Africa

The United States has accused Russian military contractors of interfering in the internal affairs of African countries and “increasing the likelihood that violent extremism will grow” in the Sahel region, which is facing increasing attacks.

US Deputy Ambassador Richard Mills lashed out at the Wagner Group at a UN Security Council meeting on West Africa and the Sahel. France’s political counsellor and Britain’s Deputy Ambassador backed the opinion of Mills.

Russia’s Deputy Ambassador Anna Evstigneeva rejected “attempts to besmirch Russian assistance to Mali”, where Moscow has a bilateral agreement to assist the transitional government, “and in other countries in Africa”.

Iran Activates New Trade Centers in Africa

Director General of the Africa Department of the Trade Development Organization of Iran (TPOI) said that extensive measures are taken in order to create and increase bilateral recognition between Iran and the countries of the African continent.

He stated that the high capacity of commercial centers under the supervision of the TPOI in the target countries is one of the most important means of entering the market and "a network of 8 new trade centers has been activated across the African continent that provides a wide range of services to production and export companies that have a presence in the African market."

According to Director General, these centers are located in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Senegal, Nigeria, Algeria and South Africa and this network will be completed by the end of the year.
