Here's more details from that short Indian government briefing:

The spokesman said Pakistan responded to India's strikes on Tuesday by targeting "military installations" with its warplanes

He said Indian aircraft "responded instantly" and "foiled their attempts successfully"

One Pakistani plane was shot down by an Indian MiG-21 and "fell" on the Pakistani side
In the dogfight, India lost a MiG-21 and the pilot is "missing in action"

It's worth noting that Pakistan says it did not strike military targets in its action this morning and denied one of its F-16s had been shot down.

The images of its quivering pilot in Pakistani custody is not something Indian government imagined when it ordered the Balakot incursion. This is a major propaganda defeat for India, which couldn't give any evidence for its previous claims but now has to sit through THIS.

Pakistan played it quite well I have to say. Yet again invited India to talks regarding the terrori attack that started this latest round of hostilities. Reiterated that Pakistani army acted in defense and didn't took offensive actions. In short it's clear loss and embarrassement for India. As stated in previous comments. If they want to stay relevant power in the region then they have not much more other options than retaliate. Also I've read interesting comments hinting at US support for India during ongoing attempt to sideline Pakistan.

Agreed that the Pakistan played very well their public relation card. Now it's up to India, and with the election coming I am not so sure heads will remain cold...

Will be interesting to see which side Russia and China supports. I don't see Russia and China butting heads over this though, their relationship is pretty good last time I checked.

Big anger amongst the Indians to find out that their commander was flying in a redundant MiG 21. And demands to Modi that he doesn't rest until the pilot is returned. Then factor in that Indians are already known for being a very proud people.
