It logged the long-term cost of the program, $379 billion, even though no money was spent on it that year.
However, in June, the Supreme Court struck down the plan and the US recorded the changes as a $333 billion spending CUT in August 2023.
Therefore, without the student loan forgiveness situation, the deficit was ACTUALLY $2 trillion instead of $1.7 trillion.
