and the process involves submitting a selfie alongside government-issued ID.

As Engadget reports, the new system was discovered by app researcher Nima Owji,
who shared a screenshot of the ID verification process.
It takes about five minutes to complete, according to X,
but requires submitting photos of your government-issued ID and taking a selfie.

The personal information submitted is handled by AU10TIX, an identity verification company based in Israel.
The process requires users to consent to X storing their information up to 30 days and sharing it with AU10TIX for an identity check.
X states that the information, along with data collected from a user’s profile,
will be used “for the purpose of safety and security, including preventing impersonation.”

were found in 45 percent of water taps in the United States.

The EPA’s separate findings are the latest evidence that these controversial chemicals are widespread in the environment.
PFASs are called “forever chemicals” because they build up and accumulate in a person’s body over time instead of breaking down
and have been linked to a number of serious illnesses, including cancer and birth defects.
The chemicals are water resistant and do not break down in the environment and can remain in human bodies for years.
The EPA reported that the toxins could affect the drinking water of 26 million people,
according to an environmental advocacy organization called the Environmental Working Group which analyzed the latest agency data.

like all such breakthroughs... it will come down to efficiency: how much energy in to produce how much energy out.
i.e.... you can use 'solar' to produce hydrogen... but it's not efficient.
or
you can produce spirulina/blue-algae and 'feed it' CO2... not only does the algae emit O2 but it's a 'super-food' (more protein than meat!)
but.... it won't 'store' properly in its' healthiest state: fresh.... so they flash dry it or freeze it... BOTH of which degrades it terribly.
I've eaten 'fresh' spirulina... there's nothing like it. Dried spirulina is garbage and smells like the rotted material it is.

a contract that would have given multiple US agencies unprecedented access into the app’s records and operations.

Many of the concessions the government asked of TikTok look eerily similar
