People in Russia are used to sorrow ("sind Kummer gewohnt" is a German proverb for people who are not very spoiled), and most of those who are now ~30 years old will still remember well what it was like in the past. Until the sanctions, things went uphill very quickly under Putin (and Medvedev) and then slowed down a bit. I don't think the West will manage to change the mood fast enough. Transatlantistan and its vassals still have a few cards in their hands economically, but none of them are really strong any more.

The main problem is actually with the West, because people here have only been experiencing certain hardships for a few years. In principle, we are for the most part like spoiled children, and woe betide us when the usual lolly suddenly fails to appear.
