After the ionisation, the ions travel up through the cracks in the rocks. Once they reach the atmosphere these ions can ionise pockets of air, forming plasma that emits light."

I live in the area of that supermarket- butchers and fruit and vegetable markets are still ok because they have a different supply chain,that probably wont last though. I have a lot off tinned and instant provisions as back up,these pricks will pull the power sooner or later and blame Russia or somebody at that point your stuffed freezer is useless after a day or so.Im afraid the plot is becoming obvious.
