Trump confirms use of US military in Venezuela among ‘options’ on table
The option of sending the US military to Venezuela is on the table, while talking to President Nicolas Maduro is not, President Donald Trump said in an interview on Sunday.
While talking to CBS' Face the Nation, Trump would not expand on the prospects of military involvement in the crisis in the Latin America country besides replying that "it's an option."
He also confirmed that he refused to talk to President Maduro when he suggested a meeting a few months ago. According to Trump, there is no point in talking to Venezuela's elected president because "we're very far along in the process" and there are "horrible things happening" in the country, such as "poverty," "anguish," and "crime."
"You have a young and energetic gentleman but you have other people within that same group that have been very, very – if you talk about democracy – it's really democracy in action," Trump said.

UK's opposition leader, Jeremy Corbyn, has weighed in on the ongoing US-backed coup attempt in Venezuela.
Corbyn’s support for “dialogue and a negotiated settlement” is consistent with his longstanding anti-war stance. For many, this is further proof that Labour will no longer support the US – as it did with the disastrous invasion of Iraq – in its imperialist ventures.
Corbyn’s opposition to further US sanctions on Venezuela is also vital, considering they are already economically strangling the country. And that fits in with popular opinion in Venezuela, where 81% of people oppose such sanctions.
With UK foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt‘s support for the Venezuelan opposition, much of the establishment media will try to draw an imagined line between Corbyn’s support for a “dictator” (i.e. the elected president) and the so-called “democratic” forces trying to oust him undemocratically. Once again, the media will be functioning as an agent for Western imperialism.
The issue at stake here is Venezuelan sovereignty. And not for the first time, Corbyn is on the money.
He must now go one step further and call on the US to end devastating economic sanctions altogether.

The UK, France, and Spain among a number of countries, have announced their recognition of Juan Guaido as Venezuela's interim president after Caracas did not cave into an ultimatum calling for elections with eight days.
“Nicolas Maduro has not called Presidential elections within 8 day limit we have set. So UK alongside European allies now recognises @jguaido as interim constitutional president until credible elections can be held,” UK Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt wrote in a tweet on Monday.

Rome has effectively derailed an EU statement meant to recognize Juan Guaido as Venezuela’s interim leader if President Nicolas Maduro fails to set up snap elections, a Five Star Movement source confirmed to RT.
Italy announced the veto at an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers that started on January 31 in Romania, the source said. The statement, which was supposed to be delivered by EU foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini recognized Guaido as interim president if snap elections were not held.

Guaido said in a newspaper interview published on Monday he would do all he could to secure Rome’s backing, but Italy’s coalition parties took opposing positions.
Alessandro Di Battista, a prominent figure in one of them, the 5-Star Movement, said: “Handing out ultimatums, sanctions, freezing Venezuelan goods ... It would mean opening the road to a military intervention.
“The 5-Star Movement and this government will never recognize people who appoint themselves president.”
The other coalition party, the far-right League party, has come out strongly in favor of Guaido and acknowledged that attempts to find common cause with 5-Star had so far failed.
“Our (coalition) allies think we need to act gradually and be more prudent,” League head, Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, told Rete 4 television.
“We’re not looking very good on this.”

Venezuela CRISIS: Jeremy Corbyn accused of ‘MORAL BANKRUPTCY’ as pressure mounts
The criticism was made by former Foreign Secretary and Tory leader William Hague. Last month Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido declared himself President, challenging the regime of Nicolas Maduro. Mr Corbyn has refused to back calls for Mr Maduro to stand down claiming: “The future of Venezuela is a matter for Venezuelans.”
Writing in The Daily Telegraph, Mr Hague commented: “This is the hand-wringing language of moral bankruptcy.
“No doubt he thinks what happens in North Korea is a matter for North Koreans, overlooking the fact they have no way of expressing their views.
“Extend his argument back a few decades and he would be informing us that dealing with Nazis was a matter for Germans alone.”
