The lira's "brought-about-calm" story may not be what it seems

There's actually nothing to it in my view

This report was doing the rounds on social media with claims of "Turkey being close to possible release of US pastor" cited but this looks to be more sensational journalism more than anything else. In fact, if I read it correctly, the story should generate the opposite reaction and not further calm in the lira.

Yes, the headline is attractive. But if you actually read the story it goes on to say that a Turkish diplomat spoke about discussions in Washington where the Turks basically made exorbitant requests from the US in order to secure the release of the pastor and then blaming the US for not accepting them - or in their words "unwilling to offer" more.

The diplomat cited also went on to say that the US is not backing down from its stance that the US won't give in to any bargaining. Considering that, it looks like we're further away from a solution if anything else.

Don't think Turkey needs to worry about the YPG huge numbers of them are being killed daily by ambushes and IEDs by unknown attackers isis cells, assad loyalists or turkish backed fighters?

Why Russia will not fall victim to financial terrorism

As the Turkish Lira collapses, sending emerging market economies into turmoil, Russia is being slapped with additional US sanctions dubbed the US Congress 'bill from hell'.

The full text the newest sanctions bill has been released. The sanctions are deliberately designed to punish Russia's economy for a Skripal poisoning hoax for which no evidence of Russian state involvement has been presented. The new bill even goes so far as to suggest designating Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.

The "sanctions bill from hell" officially entitled 'Defending American Security from Kremlin Aggression Act of 2018' was introduced by a group of Republican and Democratic senators on the 2nd of August.

According to RT, the bill would place restrictions on US cooperation with Russia's oil industry, target Russian sovereign debt transactions as well as Russian uranium imports. In addition, the legislation calls for sanctions against "political figures, oligarchs, and other persons that facilitate illicit and corrupt activities, directly or indirectly, on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin."

The Duran's Alex Christoforou and Editor-in-Chief Alexander Mercouris explains why, unlike the financial meltdown in Turkey, Russia is well equipped and properly prepared to weather the US sanctions storm... and may, in the end, come out of the latest emerging markets turmoil stronger and more independent from western petrodollar control than ever before.

I wonder if Russia could blackmail America and threaten to upgrade syria to S-300 and Iran to S-400 and maybe even more modern fighter jets if America sanctions russia as we saw how America freaked out when turkey was going to buy S-400 and they hate syria and Iran far more than Turkey.
