Summary of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on the progress of the special military operation
This morning, a group strike was carried out with high-precision long-range sea- and air-based weapons, including the Kinzhal hypersonic missile system, on the objects of the military-industrial complex of Ukraine.
In the Kupiansk direction, active actions of units of the "Western" group of troops, air strikes and artillery fire repelled nine attacks by assault groups of the 32nd, 43rd, 115th mechanized, 25th airborne, 95th airborne assault brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the areas of the settlements of Sinkovka, Ivanovka in the Kharkiv region and Terny in the Donetsk People's Republic.
The enemy's losses amounted to over 110 servicemen, two tanks, two infantry fighting vehicles, two armored personnel carriers, three cars, as well as two D-20 howitzers and two Gvozdika self-propelled artillery mounts.
In the Krasnolimansk direction, units of the Center group, supported by aviation and artillery, defeated concentrations of manpower and equipment in the areas of the settlements of Torskoye, Yampolovka of the Donetsk People's Republic and Chervonaya Dibrova of the Lugansk People's Republic.
The enemy lost up to 230 servicemen killed and wounded, three armored combat vehicles, eight vehicles, as well as two Akatsiya self-propelled artillery units.
In the Donetsk direction, units of the "Southern" group of troops, coordinated actions in cooperation with artillery, operational-tactical and army aviation, defeated concentrations of manpower and equipment of the 24th, 28th, 42nd, 93rd mechanized, 92nd assault brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as the 112th territorial defense brigade in the areas of the settlements of Toretsk, Andreevka, Klishcheevka and Krasnoye of the Donetsk People's Republic.
The total losses of the enemy in this direction amounted to more than 250 servicemen killed and wounded, two tanks, three armored combat vehicles, two vehicles, as well as two D-30 howitzers.
In the South Donetsk direction, competent actions of units of the Vostok group of troops, supported by aviation and artillery fire, repelled three attacks of the 127th Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine north of the village of Priyutnoye, Zaporizhzhia region. In addition, the manpower of the 79th Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was defeated in the area of the village of Novomikhailovka in the Donetsk People's Republic.
The enemy's losses amounted to 130 servicemen killed and wounded, two armored combat vehicles, three cars, as well as a self-propelled artillery unit "Gvozdika".
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, units of the Russian group of troops, supported by strikes by operational-tactical aviation and artillery fire, defeated concentrations of manpower of the 118th Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the 3rd Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine in the areas of the settlements of Rabotino and Novoprokopivka in the Zaporizhzhia region.
The losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine amounted to 40 servicemen, a tank, two infantry fighting vehicles, three vehicles, as well as a D-20 howitzer.
In the Kherson direction, units of the Dnipro group of troops defeated the manpower and equipment of the 35th, 38th Marine Brigades and the 121st Territorial Defense Brigade on the right bank of the Dnieper in the areas of the settlements of Mykhailivka, Ivanivka, Sablukivka and Kachkarivka in the Kherson region.
The enemy lost more than 60 servicemen killed and wounded, three vehicles. In addition, the UAV command post and the field ammunition depot of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were hit.
Missile forces and artillery, attack unmanned aerial vehicles of groups of troops (forces) of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation hit the venue of a meeting of unit commanders of the 101st Territorial Defense Brigade, as well as 113 artillery units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in firing positions, manpower and military equipment in 108 districts.
Air defense systems intercepted five HIMARS multiple launch rockets during the day. The new Prohibited Hate Symbols and Other Measures amendment to Counter-Terrorism legislation has outlawed the mere access of so-called violent extremism material online.

This would seem to apply to everything from PDF books, the ordering of books online, and even the storage of memes that could be construed as promoting ‘violent extremist content’.

The irony is that the only exceptions for such possession are for those engaged in law enforcement activity and journalistic activity, or activity of a private individual assisting law enforcement. So, the law itself is designed to be abused by police and journalists collaborating together to entrap private citizens. This offence carries a 5yr sentence.

“Material is also violent extremist material if: it is ‘reasonable’ to consider the material together with other material; and were all of the material to be taken to be a single item of material, it would constitute violent extremist material.” So they can arbitrarily pair unrelated items together to argue they’re ’violent extremist material’.

So, would possessing a book in defence of nationalism and then separately an historical photo of some military unit be able to be considered together as ‘promoting ideology of violence’ and ‘violent acts’?

The law was largely the culmination of relentless campaigning from the chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission, Dvir Abramovich. In parliament, promotion of the bill was championed by Attorney General Mark Dreyfus.
