I am not questioning the reasoning behind the Russian navy action on Odessa, from a purely strategic point it makes perfect sense, but war is also about perceptions and "feelings", abroad and domestically, the Fall of Mariupol would demoralize the Ukrop Junta much faster, it's a symbol of their power, and after that Odessa and the rest would fall like dominoes.
