So I was talking with her in 2019 about the situation in Hongkong. It became clear immediately, that she did not dare talking openly. So I did not force her. But I learnt, that one of her cousins is studying now - surprise, surprise - in Bangkok. So when the student unrests started last year in Bangkok, I asked her, if she had more information, but I got no answer.
In Bangkok there is a big Chinese community, who are living there for generations now. Up to now, they were speaking Yueyu 粤语 (Cantonese), but now they are shifting to Putonghua 普通话 (Mandarin), the main dialect on the mainland.
So yes, there are close connections, maybe even the same NGOs.
In one of the videos you can clearly see, that one of the attackers is not even an Asian, he looks more like an American.
