This article is interesting and I think what he is getting at is that long ago when the USA was the dominate military aircraft manufacturer of the world there was a free market in operation in the United States. You had a ton of manufacturers competing to build airplanes and the competition made the quality very high. you had a lot of major manufacturers some noteworthy ones being

Grumman
Boeing
Martin
Lockheed
Convair
Douglas
McDonnell
Vought
Corsair
Republic
Fairchild
General Dynamics
North American
etc.
Eventually through unrestrained corporate takeovers and mergers only Boeing and Lockheed exist anymore and the quality is obviously total crap. Now they are looking at their new unusable Lockheed boondoggles and all they are left with is some once great but now severely outdated and outperformed planes and they are desperately trying to get some competition back into play. Laissez-faire capitalism has eaten itself.

Per Daily Mail - UK Gov's scientific advisors/medical chiefs are advising Boris to bring in a two week national lockdown because, according to them, their projection is for covid infections and deaths to increase greatly by the end of October. Additionally, for now they say they are determined to keep schools and workplaces open during any lockdown, but it's not guaranteed because they say they are keeping the option open that schools and workplaces will be shutdown too.

In the early days of the pandemic when there was great fear it was going to be a major killer and super infectious, there were some videos of people doing their shopping at the supermarkets in full face mask respirators and protective suits. I admit I even bought one of those respirators at the time because of seeing that...
