For "western democracies" is freedom, democracy, free speech etc. just a card they play if they want to attack someone else. Then they project their own wrongdoings (as censorship or support of extremists) on the targeted country. It can't be more clear by now I guess...

July 18th mortar shell killed a 68 year old woman
