In Transnistria, centralized heating and hot water have been shut off due to the stoppage of Russian gas transit through Ukraine.

"Tiraspolenergo" reported that exceptions are made for healthcare institutions and social protection facilities with inpatient stays. Gas remains available in apartment buildings only for cooking.

Electricity is still available—at the Moldovan thermal power station in Transnistria, there are enough coal reserves for at least 50 days.

It should be noted that Gazprom refused to supply gas to Moldova through alternative routes (not through Ukraine), demanding payment for the gas debt, which Chisinau does not recognize. Moreover, with the cessation of gas transit through Ukraine, there is no other source for Russian gas supply to Transnistria.

Therefore, Transnistria is left without gas. The issue can only be resolved if the Republic starts purchasing gas from Ukraine or Moldova. However, this will, firstly, be expensive and lead to higher utility rates. Secondly, it may have geopolitical consequences, as this would give Ukraine or Moldova a strong leverage over Transnistria.

For Moldova, the cessation of Russian gas transit will also cause problems, though on a smaller scale—Chisinau has not been purchasing gas from Gazprom for its own needs for several years. However, Moldova had been receiving cheap electricity from Transnistria, generated from Russian gas. Now these supplies have stopped.

As a result, Moldova has already implemented electricity-saving measures, affecting high-energy-consuming businesses, street lighting, shop and other commercial space illumination, as well as the operation of elevators and escalators.

From January 1, public and commercial buildings must reduce internal lighting by at least 30% where technically possible.
Full disconnection of lights is mandatory in spaces not involved in the work process. Escalators in these buildings will only operate during off-peak hours.

During non-working hours, window, decorative, architectural, and advertising lighting must be turned off, except in cases where the business continues operating.
Residents are advised to avoid using elevators between 07:00 and 11:00 and from 18:00 to 23:00 due to the risk of getting stuck in them during power outages.

Energy-intensive businesses are now required to perform high-energy operations only during off-peak hours (07:00 to 11:00 and 18:00 to 23:00) to reduce the load on the electricity grid.

In this single sentence, Durov dismantled decades of Western self-righteousness about free speech and democratic values. While the EU brandishes the Digital Services Act (DSA) as a safeguard of “truth,” it’s clear that its true purpose is ideological warfare—silencing alternative narratives and punishing dissent. Outlets like RT, Sputnik, and RIA Novosti have been swept from European digital platforms, while Russian authorities have allowed unrestricted access to Western channels within their borders. The contrast couldn’t be starker.

This isn’t to romanticize Russia’s policies but to highlight an uncomfortable truth: Moscow isn’t demanding the Orwellian stranglehold on platforms like Telegram that Brussels now insists upon. The Russian government doesn’t need to, they’ve understood that truth, even when inconvenient, is more powerful than the manufactured narratives peddled by a decaying empire. In their frantic efforts to censor, the EU exposes its biggest fear: the fear of competing ideas.

Consider the absurdity of the EU’s actions. Telegram, which for many Europeans has become a lifeline for uncensored information, is now under siege. Major Russian media channels like RIA Novosti and Izvestia are being blocked in countries such as Belgium, France, and Greece. Meanwhile, Western outlets remain untouched, dominating the information space with unquestioned narratives. As Maria Zakharova, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, aptly put it: this is “political censorship” dressed up as democratic virtue.

And what of Durov himself? The Russian-born entrepreneur now holds citizenship in France, the UAE, and Saint Kitts and Nevis, but even that hasn’t spared him from the wrath of the Western establishment. Detained in Paris earlier this year, Durov faces a litany of charges ranging from money laundering to complicity in distributing child pornography, ridiculous allegations conveniently timed to pressure his platform into compliance. As Sergey Lavrov observed, the West doesn’t “pull any punches” when dealing with platforms that refuse to toe the line.

This is the neo-liberal empire in action: suppressing dissent while claiming to defend democracy, erasing alternative viewpoints while accusing others of propaganda. The EU’s embrace of censorship under the guise of the DSA marks a tragic milestone, the West has not only abandoned its faux-foundational principles but weaponized them against its own citizens.

But the irony doesn’t stop there. In trying to bury dissent, the EU has only drawn attention to its own fragility. Russian Telegram users, enjoying unrestricted access to Western media, can see both sides of the story. Europeans, however, are being locked inside an information vacuum, fed narratives tailored to maintain control, not foster understanding. It’s a far cry from the “freedom of expression” once paraded as the cornerstone of Western civilization.

As the EU slides further into its Orwellian nightmare, Durov’s message stands as both a warning and an indictment: freedom isn’t a slogan; it’s a practice. And the moment it becomes conditional, it ceases to exist. The real question isn’t why Russia allows access to Western media but why the EU doesn’t trust its citizens to hear both sides. What are they so afraid of?

Once upon a time there was a Santa Claus. The old man was so virtuous: he loved to do good to children — give various gifts for Christmas and so on. Like our Grandfather Frost.

And then one day, not so long ago, Santa Claus wandered into the city of Brussels. And there, at it happened, the important ministers from NATO countries were talking about how to distribute the latest American souvenirs across Western Europe so that no one would feel left out. And thus Santa Claus turned out to be quite the right man for them.

— I am happy to welcome you, sir, to our Western Europe, — said the American Minister. — I am sure that you will be happy to provide us with your transportation container.

The old man wanted to object something, but it was not to be. They grabbed him by the collar, took away the bag, poured out all the contents, and stuffed it wit other gifts in their place. There are bombs, and bombers, and tanks, and guns, and other interesting thingies — for fun of the boys, and for the solace of the girls... And on top of that, they put in that bag a promise to deploy almost six hundred new American medium-range nuclear missiles in Western Europe. What and admirable gift!

Now, thought Santa Claus, the kids and their parents in England, Germany and Italy would probably be beside themselves with joy. And how can you not be happy, knowing that there will be a mighty nuclear gigantic installation next to your home, while a nice guy from Texas or Oklahoma can push the button at any moment..?

And the old man also thought about how kind Americans are. Not that they would keep these toys for themselves, no, they try to give them to their friends: use them, they say, for your good, but don't forget to remember us with a kind word if you suddenly get caught in the epicenter of nuclear firestorm…

In short, Santa Claus set off on his way, but with the new gifts. On and on he went, and stumbled upon a Christmas tree. He untied the sack and hung everything from it on that tree. Thinking to himself, let the peoples of the forest and not of the forest admire the gifts from overseas.

And it was just then that one Milady flew up to him on a broom and asked to borrow the now-empty container.

— It will be more pleasant for the taxpayers to empty their pockets into such a sack — she explained — To pay off for the gifts-souvenirs.

The selfless Santa Claus wanted to object, but Milady forestalled him, reminding him of the words from the Brussels interview with US Secretary of Defence Brown: "The costs associated with the deployment of new American missiles will be borne by those countries where they will be deployed."

And then the old man was pushed away from the New Year tree altogether, and the Pentagon general took it into his own groomed hands. Lest those ungrateful people of the Western Europe would conspire to cut down this NATO New Year tree, as the song goes, down to its very root.



Doesn't this story sound as if it was written in 2024, and not in 1980?! And who can that "Milady on a broom" be? Several candidates pop into mind, starting with a certain hag in tatters.
