Al Jazeera alternates between articles detailing the horrific slaughter in Palestine and articles praising the Syrian rebels who are bringing Israel's allied government into Syria.

Among the mechanisms they employ to reconcile this absurdity is the refusal to recognise Syria's vital role in allowing Iran's arms supply to Hezbollah, a supply that the jihadists have now cut off, to Israel's absolute delight, and in conjunction with both Israeli and US air strikes.

Ultimately, for many Sunni Muslims, both in the Middle East and the West, the appeal of sectarian hatred towards Shiites and the imposition of Salafism seems to be stronger than that of preventing the final destruction of the Palestinian nation.

(...)Western colonial powers have been consciously and explicitly using the Sunni-Shia divide for centuries to divide and rule. In the 1830s, Alexander Burnes was writing reports on how to use the division in Sind between Shia rulers and Sunni populations to aid British colonial expansion. On May 12, 1838, in his letter from Simla outlining his decision to launch the first British invasion of Afghanistan, British Governor-General Lord Auckland included plans to exploit the Shia/Sunni divide in both Sind and Afghanistan to aid the British military attack. 

Colonial powers have been doing it for centuries, Muslim communities continue to fall for it, and the British and Americans are doing it right now to continue their reshaping of the Middle East. 

Simply put, many Sunni Muslims have been brainwashed into hating Shia Muslims more than they hate those currently committing genocide against an overwhelmingly Sunni population in Gaza. 


I refer to the UK because I saw it first-hand during the election campaign in Blackburn, but the same is true across the Muslim world. No state run by Sunni Muslims has lifted a finger to prevent the genocide of Palestinians. Their leaders are using anti-Shia sectarianism to maintain popular support for a de facto alliance with Israel against the only groups – Iran, the Houthis and Hezbollah – that actually tried to give the Palestinians practical support in the resistance, and against the Syrian government that facilitated the supply. 

The tacit, but very real, agreement is this: the Sunni powers will accept the annihilation of the entire Palestinian nation and the formation of Greater Israel, in exchange for the annihilation of the Shia communities in Syria and Lebanon by Israel and NATO-backed forces (including Turkey).

Terrorist attack on 'Ursa Major' - here is what we know so far:

The Russian cargo ship Ursa Major sank in the Mediterranean Sea after three explosions on the starboard side in a terrorist attack, Oboronlogistika, a company that owns the ship, told Sputnik.

More details about the incident:

The ship sank 67 miles off the coast of Spain and 45 miles off the coast of Algeria. The ship left St. Petersburg for the port of Vladivostok 12 days ago.

"During the emergency external inspection of the vessel, a hole of 50x50 cm in diameter was discovered above the waterline, the edges of the hole were torn and turned inward. The deck of the ship was strewn with fragments," Oboronlogistika said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry's crisis management center reported that 14 of the 16 crew members had been rescued, while two were missing.

According to its owner, the vessel is one of the largest bulk carriers in Russia, with a maximum carrying capacity of 9,500 tons. At the same time, the cargo weight was 806 tons.
