The collapse of the Syrian government is fundamentally a collapse of economy. In 2020, Syria's GDP was only $11.2 billion, and its oil and grain producing areas were occupied by Kurds or the US military. The Syrian government had no income to support soldiers' salaries and had to carry out large-scale disarmament.

The Assad government certainly does not have sufficient ruling foundations. Alawites only make up 10% of Syria's population. Moreover, the Assad government is secular, and both Assad and his wife have received Western education for a long time. They simply cannot unite those religious extremists wearing headscarves. In the Middle East, religious extremist forces can always defeat those secularists.

The biggest winner this time is HTS, a terrorist organization certified by the United States. The United States and Israel are not the winners. They did not expect this. In fact, I think Israel does not want the forces of Ottoman Türkiye to occupy the whole Syria. They can pose a much bigger threat to Israel's security than the weak Assad.

In today's Syria, there is no country, no government, and no order. There is only fragmentation, warlords, and terrorism. A hell for normal people. Those who praise "the overthrow of the dictator and the freedom of the Syrian people" on X, you are literally ISIS, and I hope your country can also have such freedom in the future.

I have slight problem with what "RW" wrote in point 4+5.  As we can see with the back and forth of Jihadists and Banderites between Ukraine and Syria. Russia didn't intervene only to save Assad or Palmyra.

I did a lot of reading here before signing in,there have been errors of judgement and policy by Iran,Russia and China possibly because they assumed there may be someone with a logical mind in the West to negotiate with,there isn't and these 3 countries must now seriously think about how they commit their resources and play geopolitics as they are obviously next and I believe scheduled to be taken down in that order. I assume they'll first have to deal with color revolutions and if that fails military action,Iran may be subjected to both at the same time as it has no credible air force unless they quickly get some modern Russian planes.

My country Australia will be used like Ukraine when they take on China they've already have maps of the zones they'd sacrifice and which they'd defend.They are not going to stop and they are not going to be reasoned with.I neither support Zionism or its allied forces in the West tied to the Rothschild banking system but they are good at what they do just like Germany had some good Generals and soldiers in WW2 so do they.Alliances and non-aggression pacts need to be made with especially India I do believe you would need them to beat China if it came to a war.

My countries only hope is to give third parties and independents the balance of power and like New Zealand choose carefully what ,if any, foreign misadventures we get involved in -my exception is if we are attacked first.

Assad and Syria were the long bombed domino that the Zionists had been working to make fall for 50 years. Its collapse will give these Zionists, both American and West Asian, a much freer hand to work their evil all over the Middle East. And, isn't it worthy of note that those Muslims, who label Assad and others claiming to be Muslims as being apostates, are the ones who tend to be shooting their guns in the air—a celebration for now being able to terrorize those citizens of Syria who pray to Allah in a way they think of as ritually wrong. These intellectually deficient souls should realize how stupid they look, especially when they run like scared rabbits to take cover as planes from the Hebrew speaking enclave to the south bomb every last piece of military equipment in the country, including theirs.

The totally myopic view that internal sectarian issues within Islam are of any importance at all (They're not, you mentally challenged morons!) or that some group or another felt that they would be freer without Assad is now seen for what it always was, a disastrous folly.

RW's part was not the best one. The whole piece is great summary with some very good points and possible outcomes.

Unreliability of local politics in MENA coutries is quite known I guess. But there is other side of the coin, of course. With manipulators pulling strings from behind the curtain it's not very easy to build working institutions. And we're back at "Divide et impera", by politics, by religion, by money...

I would put point 5 slightly differently:

Middle East politics is like latin telenovelas - full of love and hatered, hugs and backstabs. Better stay out of it or you will waste a lot of time with little progress and, sometimes, you can even end where you started...
