Politico writes that Vance has clearly expressed his point of view on Ukraine. In 2022, he told Steve Bannon in an interview:
I have to be honest with you, I don’t care what happens to Ukraine one way or the other.

On April 20, 2023, Vance, along with 18 other representatives of the US Republican Party, signed a letter to US President Biden stating that "unrestricted assistance to Ukraine by the United States of America must be stopped."

In February 2024, when Vance first spoke at the Munich Security Conference, he said the US should reconsider its support for Ukraine and skipped a meeting with the Ukrainian delegation and other senators.
