As far as I know, some peoples chew fruits or cereals and spit them into a pot to cause fermentation. Traditionally, grapes were and are still pressed with bare feet.
Spitting into someone's soup means the same as
to make a dash through someone's calculation, but whether this means the same in English as in German I do not know.
