Armenian PM hands over dark brown regions (Agdam and Lacin) to Azerbaijan. Red remains in Armenian hands with the condition of securing the road from Yerevan to Stepanagerd by Russian peace keepers.

Well, this doesn't look like very good situation. Basicly, Karabakh will be surrendered by Azeris. It won't stay long as that I guess.

So let us comprehend all this. A Ru.F helicopter flying in Armenia airspace was shot down, pilots killed, crew injured by Azeri aggression, which also violates CSTO treaty and Azeris admit it. The response from Putin’s government is ... an agreement to an investigation? Wow if this is all he can do when Russians die on border by hostile aggression against an ally state one wonders what the war pigs of NATO will think of his resolve. Maybe it will be good thing if he steps down next year after all.

Russians never react to provocation, they play their own chess games. The region is just one among others on the RU borders with NATO allies.

He's live now:

1. On November 7, we completely lost control of the city of Shushi - Arayik Harutyunyan

2. I do not know how history will evaluate the decision we made yesterday, but we were obliged to - Arayik Harutyunyan

3. Had the hostilities continued at the same pace, we would have lost the whole of Artsakh in a matter of days - Arayik Harutyunyan

4. We had great human losses yesterday in the Martuni region, during the last hours - Arayik Harutyunyan

5. The army was exhausted with Covid - Arayik Harutyunyan

6. We did not want to believe that it was impossible to fight with the potential of the human and military equipment that existed - Arayik Harutyunyan

7. We were forced [to make this decision] so that there would be no more losses. We fought against the forces of 8 countries - Arayik Harutyunyan

8. I spoke with representatives of the elite, among them Bako Sahakyan, Arkady Ghukasyan, Vitaly Balasanyan and others, and they are all ready to cooperate and work with us. We are holding consultations with them - Arayik Harutyunyan

9. Everyone [of the above] said that a temporary or final truce was inevitable. Otherwise, we would have lost all of Artsakh in a matter of days. There were no resources to continue the fight - Arayik Harutyunyan

10. It seems that we managed to defend ourselves from drones for several days, but already in the last two days the enemy, I do not know how, through new technologies or new drones, had the opportunity to inflict great damage on our troops again - Arayik Harutyunyan

11. Why did it not succeed? We will all answer, yes all of us. All of us who have held positions in recent decades. In general, there will be an assessment of the state of the army in the future - Arayik Harutyunyan

12. The morale of the troops was not very good, in some places it can be said that it was extremely bad. Exhausted by hemorrhoids, dysentery, and Covid. The army was on the front line for 43 days, and we did not have the opportunity to change, rest or heal - Arayik Harutyunyan

13. Certainly we didn't fight against Azerbaijan, and definitely not only the Turkish officer or military equipment was on the battlefield during the hostilities. The participation of Turkish soldiers, terrorists, mercenaries from different countries were too - Arayik Harutyunyan

14. I bow first to our soldiers, the most heroic guys in the world were our conscripts. I bow to the families and relatives of all the victims. We had to save the lives of those same conscripts - Arayik Harutyunyan

I'm hunting for Putin's 4D chess rationale on this one but the fall of the rest of Karabakh is now inevitable unless Russia stays there for 1000 years. I think that is the point, they have agreed to just slowly sacrifice it and perhaps make sure the whole population isn't genocided in the process? Which is more than they owe anyone to be honest. Unfortunately it will embolden Turkey and Azerbaijan for sure - rightly or wrongly it makes Russia look weak like when they allow Israel to fly into Syria and bomb stuff at will. They are probably both licking their chops planning how to finish off Armenia at this point.

I don't think Russia can go around saving the entire world and I think Russia just didn't see it as having any value to them to save a disputed island within Azerbaijan proper I suppose. The way the whole thing is set up is wonky and I am not sure what national interest that little chunk of land is for Russia?

But this proves that those who idolize Russia as this great international savior policeman (yes many people believe that) are also unrealistic. Bottom line Russia looks out for its own interests like everybody else.

Well, I'm afraid such half-assed decisions don't honor their memory very well. Truth must be told - in my opinion this is one of the worst, if not even the worst overall, decisions taken by Russia in last 20 years. There are some of reactions I can see:

This peace in Karabakh resembles me to Kumanovo agreement by which Serbia lost Kosovo.Only difference is that Serbia defended itself for 4 months and NATO Forces did not break through to Kosovo. They entered only after the agreement

If Syria does not solve Idlib military but by Russian diplomacy RIP

I even read accusations of betrayal of Orthodox Christianity.

Of course there are more pragmatic views as well. In reaction  to comparison of yesterday's agreement and agreement on Kosovo  RisboLensky writes:

This seems different. Putin will gain base in Azerbaijan, split influence with Erdy, choke  Pashinyan and punish him for previous "disloyalty". Cruel and merciless political execution

Or...:

Whatever approach we take, for Armenians it's disastrous...
