Prime Minister Theresa May has not listened to police concerns about knife crime, a former head of the Metropolitan Police has said.

Mrs May said the deaths of young people were "appalling" as she announced an upcoming summit on knife crime.

But Lord Stevens told the BBC: "I don't think she listens, quite frankly, to what she's being told."

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said Mrs May was not doing enough to tackle the root causes of knife crime.

Earlier, Sajid Javid called for knife crime to be treated "like a disease", and said "we have to listen to them [police] when they talk about resources".

Speaking on BBC Radio 4's World at One programme, Lord Stevens - who was commissioner of the Met between 2000 and 2005 - criticised Mrs May's handling of crime and policing as PM and when she was home secretary.

He said the Home Office had not been listening for the past five or six years.

"All you got from the Home Office, and in particular the home secretary at the time, now the prime minister, was 'our reforms are working'.

"She hasn't listened to what's been going on and it's not good enough."

Aside from uncontrolled immigration into the country which no doubt does have an effect on crime levels, the police in the UK have seen shrinking budgets year on year thanks to globalist government's austerity policies which are a result of huge debt racked up from the banker bailouts in 2008. Despite this Theresa May always insisted for many years now, even when she was Home Secretary, that police have enough funds and resources to do their job effectively. Actually, last week Theresa May said that police funding levels should not have an effect whatsoever on levels of violent crime...





The alarming acceleration in crime, particularly violent crime, in England and Wales revealed by the latest set of police recorded crime figures will set the alarm bells ringing in Downing Street and highlights the lack of any coherent strategy on the issue from Theresa May or her home secretary, Amber Rudd.

Teenager dies in West Kensington stabbing

A teenager has been stabbed to death in west London.

The male, aged in his late teens, was found with multiple stab wounds to the chest at 14:14 GMT on Lanfrey Place, West Kensington.

London has seen at least 24 homicides since the start of 2019.

Six teenagers have been murdered in the capital this year, all of whom died from stab wounds.

The government has lost the ability to run the country. It is no longer in charge of its own destiny, let alone that of the nation. What makes this so humiliating is that power has been ceded not to parliament, but to the European Union. The immediate future of our country will be decided in Brussels and the capitals of the EU, not in Westminster. It will be the EU that decides whether or not to offer the UK an extension to the Article 50 process, and how long it will be. Once the extension has been agreed, then parliament — which has already voted against leaving without a deal — will rubber-stamp it.

Not since Denis Healey was forced to ask the International Monetary Fund for an emergency loan in 1976 has this country been so humiliated. Then the nation required an economic bailout. This time it needs a political one.

Bosses at the council responsible for Grenfell Tower received bonuses totalling more than £90,000 in the year after the fire, it has emerged.

It was also revealed housing staff at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea had bonuses totalling £131,800.

A survivors' group called the payments "abhorrent" since some households still do not have permanent homes.

The fire in north Kensington on 14 June 2017 killed 72 people.
