WOW, Canadian Prime Minister just threatened the US with retaliation for Trump's order to 3M not to supply Canada with masks. He specifically cites the thousands of nurses and doctors that work in Detroit everyday, and the possibility that could end. #cdnpoli #coronavirus

Re: #50 - Main news thread - conflicts, terrorism, crisis from around the globe
3M is a global company that has outsourced N-95 mask production to other countries where the labor is much cheaper. Only a third of the masks are made here in the United States. That means other countries are keeping the masks for themselves and not shipping them back here.
— Eugene Gu, MD (@eugenegu) April 3, 2020
It doesn’t matter then whether Trump invokes the Defense Production Act since domestic production of masks is limited and other countries are blocking exports to the United States. Trump needs to talk to these other countries and make a deal to get them to send these masks to us.
— Eugene Gu, MD (@eugenegu) April 3, 2020
ha. see the problem?
outsourcing EVERYTHING to gain PROFITS via 'cheap' labor
(and overthrowing their govt's to maintain/own 'control' over the means of production)
only 'works'..... until the above happens.
The 'Defense Production Act' doesn't mean shit cuz it can only control DOMESTIC production.
all we make are bombs. i suppose we could bomb New York... no. wait...

Canada should leave NATO, close the borders, end trade with USA and offer Russia and China to build bases in British Columbia or near Lake Ontario.

in the world of anti-China propaganda these contradictory talking points are especially funny
1- China steals all their technology from other companies , China doesn't 'innovate' they are thieves
2- China has developed the world's most sophisticated surveillance technology
Great point!

It's more funny:
1 China invents paper, gunpowder, printing in the 1st millennium AD.
2 The Europeans copy this.
3 In about 1700 the Europeans invent "intellectual property".
4 The Western people accuse the Chinese of theft of intellectual property.

Recently I read that the British did not invent weaving machines either. The Chinese had far more advanced weaving technology, which had helped the British to greater economic success.
As other colonialists were/are also stealing their way through history and the world.

There is another story: During the 1st Opium war the British were using steam boats. The Chinese governor thought: "I have seen this before." And he found a description in the Imperial library in the "Annals of the Yuan dynasty" of steam boats. He immediately tried to rebuild them, but - typically Chinese - without any practice he failed against the British. The British thought, he had copied their boats.

But these are just the rules and laws of capitalist ideology. Better to destroy products and let people starve than to renounce profit. Who doesn't see that this system is at the end, doesn't want to see it.

I invented an arcade game with a robotic boxing glove and two buttons. If you push the red button it punches you in the face, and if you push the blue one it punches you in the face while telling you the red one would've punched you a bit harder. No one played it for some reason.

The main reason for my wish to change this society is that so many human skills have no chance to come to fruition. Instead they are used in a really sick way so that people are maintaining their own suffering from wars, hunger and illness. But it can not be changed "top-down", only in some kind of "grassroots revolution" or better "evolution" where more and more people work together to get rid of TPTB (whoever that is).
No need for a "big event" but development. One of my ideas to reach it: Don't play "their" games - don't use "their" rules - don't think in the box of "their" paradigms.
It's more "refuse" than "resist" - without too much ideology. You don't need to know much about "what's going on behind the curtains", it's mainly to create your own rules together with like-minded people.
That is what I mean with "I'm on the side of the people".

Friday was the first day banks opened in the South American country since March 20,
when the government announced a mandatory national lockdown except for essential services like food shopping or medical care.
The quarantine, in place until April 12, has posed a challenge to older Argentines
who normally visit banks in person to obtain pension payments or social funds.
Thousands of retirees, many without debit cards for withdrawing funds at ATMs,
snaked for up to six blocks in front of bank branches in capital Buenos Aires.

farmers can’t sell to restaurants or catering services. they are closed.
Instead of 18 cents... selling at 0.01 euro per kilogram for dairy feed.
....and it's time to plant.

But, my dearest dears, that isn't it at all. Think of all the wasted time and other resources to produce the milk.
But these are just the rules and laws of capitalist ideology. Better to destroy products and let people starve than to renounce profit. Who doesn't see that this system is at the end, doesn't want to see it.
It is called "Artificial Scarcity" and it is an essential part of capitalistic production and ownership/property ideas. In nature there is no scarcity.
